Armor Up Series: Week 3 'The Breastplate of Righteous'

What does it truly mean to be righteous? We often reduce that word to a checklist of religious habits, but this message takes us on a journey from ancient Hebrew marketplaces all the way to the cross to show us something far richer. The concept of tzedek, the Old Testament word for righteousness, was never just about personal piety. It was about wholeness, fairness, and being right in every dimension of life, whether in a business transaction, a family obligation, or a relationship with God. The breastplate of righteousness from Ephesians 6 is not something we manufacture through sheer moral effort. It is something we receive. When we try to balance the scales of our own lives through willpower alone, we inevitably tip them in our own favor. But what we discover is that God, knowing this about us from the beginning, sent Jesus to be the one who finally sets the standard right once and for all. That realization does not just change our standing before God. It changes how we treat every person around us. Righteousness and justice, it turns out, are inseparable companions, and together they form a protection over the most vital part of who we are.
